December 2014 – Moment with Mike

aplaceforyouOn Saturday, November 22nd, we had our charge conference at the New Hope U.M.C. in Muscatine, Iowa. This is our yearly meeting with the District Superintendent where we celebrate the past year of ministry and anticipate the year ahead. I want to thank all of the individuals and committees who have spent time in meetings to get the Charge Conference reports ready.
Included in the next couple of pages in this newsletter is a listing of those who will be on our committees in 2015. Each year in the fall, the nominations committee meets to decide who would be best to serve on the committees of the church. They then contact these persons and ask if they are willing to serve. The list included is a result of their work. If you received a call from a member of the nominations committee, and your name is on the list, you will soon receive a letter from me explaining what your committee does and how long your term on the committee will last. Thank you for serving in the ministries of the church! If you are not on the list, and you desire to serve on a commit-tee in 2016, let a member of nominations know so they can consider you as a possibility.
Whether or not you are on a committee, all of us are called to minister to others in the name of Jesus Christ, and ministry is not limited to committees. There are many ways for you to contribute to the life and ministry of the church, even if you are unable to make a multi-year commitment to a committee. Many of you already give of your time, money, talents, and resources to serve others. Thank you for all you do! If you are not currently involved in ministry and would like to be, let me know. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in existing ministries and new ministries we haven’t started yet.
God bless you as you prepare now for the Christmas season. May we remember that Jesus was given as a gift to the world. He was a gift sent not to condemn, but to save.
God bless,
Pastor Mike
